Jacqueline Steele Erie & Chautauqua Countie
Greetings everyone! My name is Jackie Dias and I have been an employee with New Frontiers in TBI, Inc. for two years. I graduated from Norwich University, Vermont College located in Montpelier, Vermont; with a Masters degree in psychology (majoring in addictions counseling and a minor in psychopathology).
I currently am employed full time as a Director of Quality Assurance & Training for a residential program funded by the New York State Office of Mental Health.
I am serving my third, two year term on the New York State Commission of Quality of Care for the Mentally Disabled Surrogate Decision Making Committee. It is a quasi-judicial committee which determines medical consents for those persons with disabilities who do not have a legal guardian or the capacity to make an informed decision. I serve as a chairperson, advocate or family member on these committees.
I am serving my second, three year term for the Erie County Mental Hygiene Community Services Board. My reappointment was approved by the Erie County Legislature in the beginning of this year. As you can see, I am a very strong advocate for persons with disabilities.
Most of my career has been spent working in the field of developmental disabilities. I have a son with a learning disability as well as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. My life had been dedicated to those persons with disabilities.
New York City Regions 1 & 2
Maryanne Stubbs
My approach to life is that all individuals whether we are human, plant or animal, all have one basic need: to be given the space to be. So, what I try to bring to all aspects of life is presence. I hope that more often than not, that is what has happened in the last 10 years I've spent as a service coordinator, serving people with developmental disabilities. My other work has included gardening and facilitating an art circle with people who are diagnosed with a mental illness. My heart sings to the beat of diversity in all its forms...and that is why I love this city so much. In New York City, not only do you find every nation under the sun, but also immigrant fish swimming up the Atlantic Coast to mingle with fish swimmimg down from the Hudson River, as well as the Atlantic Ocean. You will find conifer trees from the north sowing their seeds no farther south than NYC, building cathedrals of beauty with native oaks and maples, breathing together with us to create an even deeper mingling. You will find the Southern Magnolia can come this far north to NYC, but cannot travel any more up into the cold. The list goes on with birds and insects adding to the celebration. It truly is an amazing place to live, this meeting place of every color and form there is! I look forward to meeting more of the human residents of NYC, and hopefully bringing presence to their needs, their healing process, and their aspirations, giving rise to all that one can be.
